SSYC 2010 Junior Sailing Program Highlights
2010 Greetings from the Junior Program Chair
Dear Parents and Sailors,
At the Shrewsbury Sailing & Yacht Club we pride ourselves on quality sailing instruction. For over fifty years, we have been teaching children to enjoy this lifelong sport. Our goal is to teach your beginner sailor the fundamentals of sailing and to have an enjoyable experience for the summer. At the same time, those with more experience can benefit from our extremely experienced staff, both in advanced sailing and racing. If your child has never sailed before, we will make their first experience enjoyable and safe. If your child is a competitive racing sailor, we will challenge them to improve. If your child is somewhere in between, we have a place for them.

SSYC's Junior Program is run by volunteers and the Junior Program is dependent on the efforts of parent volunteers. If you have any interest in helping, please do not hesitate to contact the Junior Program Chair.
Junior Program Fund-Raising Event - Thanks for your support!
June 5 - The Junior Program would like to thank all those who attended the Junior Program Fund-Raiser or donated gift baskets for the event, and for their generous support of the SSYC Junior Program. A special thank you to Fund-Raiser Chair, Paula Giblin, for organizing the event. Thanks also to Maureen Kearney and Susan Ricker, who assisted Paula, and to all our Junior Sailor servers who helped in making it a successful event. The event raised almost $3,000. which will be used for the future purchase of an additional "Rib" coach boat.

The 2010 MiniCamp a Great Success.
June 28 - July 2 MiniCamp was well attended with 85 Sailors enrolled. This year MiniCamp Sailors braved numerous jellyfish, high winds and extreme heat throughout the week. In addition to learning the basics of sailing and having fun, Mini Camp sailors also learned about sailing in windy conditions and some were even exposed to "capsize drills".
Thanks to all the instructors and junior instructors for keeping everyone safe and hydrated in the extreme conditions.
2010 MiniCamp Closing Barbecue Enjoyed by All
July 2 - SSYC - We had another tremendous MiniCamp this year and want to thank everyone who pitched in to make the closing BBQ a success. Special thanks to Ellen Meehan for hosting the event which was attended by over 200 MiniCamp sailors and family members. Thanks also to Jeff Jacobi and Phil Arnheiter for their culinary skills at the grill and Ann Carroll Wibbelsman and JoAnn Lapp for their help in the kitchen, and all who helped with cleanup. Thanks to the entire Junior Program Team for a great minicamp and successful closing barbecue.
2010 Junior Summer Sailing Session Underway
July 6 - Summer sailing session is underway with our beginners learning about the points of sail and boat rigging while our intermediates and advanced are fine tuning their skills on the water. We have a great team of instructors, and wonderful sailors this year and I am sure we will have a great season of sailing on the Shrewsbury River.
2010 Regatta Madness Begins
The first week of summer session was welcomed in with the ever popular all girls Powder Puff and all boys Iron Man Regattas, as well as Pine Beach YC Feed the Need regatta.
